Welcome to our June newsletter.  June already!  Goodness, the year is flying by isn’t it?  We have so much for you to read about this month; lots happening in store soon, BRIGITTE GIBLIN will be here next month, great new fabrics including KAFFE FASSETT and AMY BUTLER, wonderful new books, gorgeous kits………  Better let you read on!

Shop News

Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair

Don’t forget the Craft and Quilt Fair coming up in July.  It starts on 23 July and runs to 26 July at the Melbourne Convention Centre (Jeff’s Shed).  Look out for us there.  Further details will be on our website soon.


We have some lovely new bag kits and bag accessories in store, including handles, clasps and clips. Featured below are "Genevieve" bags available in 2 colourways - black or grey. Kits are priced at just $69.50, and include the handles, all trims, brooches, and of course the pattern! We have a strictly limited (small) number of these - best to give us a call here at the shop to ensure you don't miss out!

Mini Quilts, Dolls Quilts and More Club

We are finally able to launch our new Mini Quilts Club in July!

Every six weeks members will receive a mail out of a pattern and fabric to make a small quilt.  There will be a mix of techniques to learn and try in making these small versions of traditional quilts.  The cost will be approximately $50.00 per mail out (plus postage where applicable - club members can collect their mail outs from the shop).

Blocks of the Month

We are currently running a Block of the Month for “Seasons on Pomegranate Lane” by The Quilted Crow, and another for “Mill Works” - very limited places available for each.

Magazine Update

:: Quiltmania’s Spring Special includes Jen Kingwell’s “My Small World” Quilt-a-Long (QAL).  If you’d like to join in, grab your copy of this Spring Special and then head over to the QAL on line with Kerry from and click the link to the My Small World QAL.

:: Quiltmania have decided to discontinue their Seasonal Special magazines and are bringing out “Simply Modern” magazine.  The first issue is due at the end of this month, June, and pre-orders are currently being taken - phone us at the shop to secure your copy.

New Fabrics

:: Fanfare please!  Kaffe is in the building!  Yes, we have started stocking those fabulous prints from Kaffe Fassett.  We have some bolts of current ranges and some from Kaffe’s new 2015 Collective.

::  Melbourne’s own Irene Blanck has her first publication out with Quiltmania called “Focus on Applique”.  If you love applique, you’ll love Irene’s book.

::  For those of you who are hexagon crazy – and we know there are a few – Millefiori Quilts Book 1 by Willyne Hammerstein is being reprinted and we will have stock again soon.  If you’ve missed out on this one, call the shop and pre-order your copy. 

::  Millefiori Quilts Book 2 by Willyne Hammerstein is available in store now. We also have Millefiori Book 1 due to arrive again soon, so if you'd like  to order one of these make sure you do as we sell out of these so quickly every time we order them!

::  More hexagon madness with The New Hexagon by Katja Marek.  52 blocks to English Paper Piece.

::  “Constantinople Quilts” by Tasmin Harvey. This much anticipated book has 8 stunning applique projects inspired by Turkish Iznik tiles.

Brigitte Giblin - Trunk Show or 2 day workshop - your choice!

The very talented Brigitte Giblin, of “Feathering the Nest” fame is coming to Sewn and Quilted to teach!  Brigitte will be holding a 2 day workshop and enrollments are now open.  Please contact the shop soon to ensure your spot, as we anticipate this will be a highly sought after class.

Friday Night Trunk Show: Brigitte will also be having a Trunk Show here at the shop.  Again, please contact the shop soon to secure your place for this event.

The “Colmar” Block of the Month kits have sold out.  BUT, if you’d like to start making this BOM, we are only too happy to assist you with fabric choices to make your own, individual version.

If you need assistance with any aspect of the BOM we are holding a class at the beginning of each month.  Glenda Cust is our tutor, and as well as helping with block construction queries, Glenda’s main focus will be the embroidery stitches and the trapunto effects used on each block.  It’s not too late to join the fun!

Beginners’ Patchwork

We have two new beginners groups starting soon and if you’d like to try patchwork, these classes will fit the bill. A full description of this course can be found on our website.

New Technique of the Month from Quiltworx - "Paradise in Blooms"

We are ready to kick start you making the stunning “Paradise in Blooms” by Quiltworx, made using streamlined foundation paper piecing techniques.  A fabulous quilt if you’re up for a challenge, and for those already familiar with the Quiltworx method, this quilt includes some clever new techniques to learn. We have the illustrated colourway available in kit form, or of course we can help you create your own colourway.
