It’s Autumn…….supposedly, but the Summer heat continues!  The trees are starting to turn though, and as the days get shorter and cooler our thoughts are turning to more time spent with needle and thread.  Here’s some reading and ideas to spur your thoughts that way too!

AQC (Australian Quilt Convention)

Coming up in April is the first of the quilt shows for 2016.  Starting on 14 April and running through to 17 April at the glorious Old Exhibition Buildings in Carlton.  See us there at Stand 47 with lots of show specials, fabric packs and………. you’ll just have to visit to see!

Block of the Month

The following is an update on all of our Blocks of the Month.  There are some vacancies in all of them, so you can still sign up!

“Discovery”

We are still taking registrations for Quiltmania’s Mystery BOM for 2016, so it’s not too late to start yours!  Part 2 will be ready for distribution by mid-March.

Designed by Katrina Hadjimichael, this BOM features English Paper Piecing and Applique techniques.  First month is now available, and we'd still love to have you join us.

“Campania”

This BOM features Wool Applique and is designed by Australia’s own Deirdre Bond-Abel. Deirdre’s inspiration for this quilts design came from many places; folk art on buildings, tiles and iron work, and old quilts.

“Foxley Village”

HOW POPULAR IS THIS! We have a few kits left so it's not too late! “Homespun” magazine are running a mystery BOM for 2016, designed by Australia’s Natalie Bird and featuring stitchery and applique and using the Tilda range of fabrics (which we know many of you love).  Kits are available for $289.50 which includes fabrics for the quilt top, BACKING(!!) and binding.  This BOM will run for 10 months with patterns in each issue of “Homespun” from February to November, inclusive.  Don’t miss out on your copy – you can order one through us to ensure you get each instalment!

Ruler Buddy Finger Guards

Ruler Buddy guards fingers from the rotary cutter and allows you to grab and move the acrylic ruler with ease while keeping a simple low profile on the ruler.  It is translucent and allows you to see the guide marks of the ruler through the device.

New Fabrics

::  “Ethereal” by Camelot Design Studio.  This gentle collection of sweet prints comes in periwinkle, teal, white, grey, midnight and orchid featuring a tiny print of scalloped flowers, windflowers, floral diamonds and a floral damask style print – ethereal indeed!  Available on the bolt and in packs.

                               

::  “Vintage Picnic” by Bonnie and Camille.  What’s more wonderful than a picnic on a sunny day?  This fresh line of reproduction prints in cheery red, aqua, pink and green with just a hint of navy is filled with large florals, checks, dots and the sweetest little flowers.  So pull out the picnic basket and a sewing machine.  It’s going to be a beautiful day! Wednesday Morning with Glenda

Are you tickled by the current hexagon/EPP craze?   Does working with felted wool intrigue you?  Have you always wanted to learn embroidery?  If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, Glenda is the teacher for you!  If you’ve been into the shop lately you will have seen the examples of Glenda’s Millefiori quilt and Glenda can guide you to making your own version.  Below you will see the photo of a wool/embroidered covered bag; let your imagination fly and Glenda can help you create your own version, or something else entirely, using patterns, threads, fabrics, wools and felts that we have in store.
